'Designated Survivor' Season 2 News: Everything to Know
Hailed by the critics as one of the must-watch TV series of the current generation, "Designated Survivor" is set to return in just a few days after it went on a summer break. Although most of the fans have already met the cast of "Designated Survivor," there will be new faces that will be joining the roster. The series is expected to go in-depth on several things for its second season run.
"One of the things we realized is it is a very high-concept show, and we had to get the audience past that concept and get [Kiefer Sutherland's Tom] Kirkman into the White House and all the rest of it," ABC's president Channing Dungey told TVLine. "And as much as we love the twists and turns and the cliffhangers, what we're really looking forward to exploring in Season 2 is some of the character relationships and some of the interpersonal dynamics in the White House."
In order to showcase the dynamics of the White House, cast members will return as follows: Italia Ricci as Emily Rhodes, Seth Wright as Kal Penn, Adan Canto as Aaron Shore, Natascha McElhone as Alex Kirkman, Michelle Q as Hannah Wells, and LaMonica Garrett as Mike Ritter. They will be joined by "The Night Of" actor Paulo Costanzo as political director Lyor Boone, who is set to antagonize Tom from the first episode of "Designate Survivor" season 2. Furthermore, "Suits" actress Zoe McLellan has also been cast as an attorney in the White House, while Ben Lawson will bring MI-6 operative Damian Rennett to life.
Although the showrunners of the critically acclaimed TV series did not release a trailer for the second season, a promo showcased some of the action as well as Sutherland saying ominous lines that could hint at a more serious tone in "Designated Survivor" season 2.
"Designated Survivor" season 2 is set to air on Sept. 27 on ABC at 10 p.m. EDT.
