Despicable Me 3 Release Date, Spoilers: 'Minions' Spin-Off to Be Released This Year?
"Despicable Me 3" will be released on June 30, 2017. The release date was revealed in an official announcement from Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment.
The "Despicable Me" franchise has proven to be very successful for Universal as the original "Despicable Me" film which premiered in 2010 grossed about $543 million worldwide, while the sequel, which came out last year, grossed over $935 million in the box office.
For now, not much is known about the movie's plot, but BBC is reporting that a spin-off of the movie, entitled "Minions" is currently in production.

"Minions" will be released on Dec. 19, 2014, according to screencrush.com. Upon realizing that it had a lucrative franchise in the works, Illumination Entertainment and Universal reportedly greenlit this project back in 2012 so that fans wouldn't have to wait long before they can watch the next installment of the popular movie, as an average animated film takes three to four years to produce.
Fans of Gru and his adopted daughters might be a tad disappointed not to see him in this film, as "Minions" will be a prequel to the "Despicable Me" films. The website says that the movie will see the minions who have been around since the dawn of time, and serving different evil masters throughout the planet's history.
Though Steve Carrell, Kristen Wigg, or Russell Brand won't be voicing any of the characters in "Minions," the film will have plenty of star power as Sandra Bullock and Jon Hamm have been hired to voice the human characters in the film. Bullock will be playing the part of Scarlett Overkill, described by Deadline as "a stylish super villain who is bent on world domination," while Hamm will voice the character of Scarlett's husband, Herb Overkill, an inventor who meets the minions at a villain convention.
