'Despicable Me 3' Release Date, Plot News: New Trailer Introduces Gru's Long-Lost Twin Brother Dru

Gru and the girls are back in the spotlight this year as "Despicable Me" returns for its third installment. This week, Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures released a new trailer for "Despicable Me 3," offering a first look at Gru's twin brother.

The first trailer for the upcoming film revealed the new villain, Balthazar Bratt, voiced by Trey Parker of "South Park." Aside from the return of a few cast members and the introduction of a new character named Dru, little is known about what fans can expect from the third installment.

In the new clip for "Despicable Me 3," it was revealed that Dru is actually the twin brother of Gru, Steve Carell's character. The clip features the Dr. Dre song "What's the Difference," featuring Xzibit and Eminem, as it shows Gru seemingly tempted to go back to his old villainous ways. Apparently, he wants to rob his long-lost twin brother — the long-haired, well-heeled Dru.

When the story and some cast members of the upcoming film were first announced, the announcement seemed to suggest that "Despicable Me 3" would feature a sibling rivalry of sorts. The new installment will also follow Gru and his girlfriend Lucy Wilde (Kristen Wiig) as they seek to get hold of the new baddie, Bratt, for the Anti-Villain League.

Bratt is described as an '80s-looking former child star who is obsessed with the character he played in his early years. He will be Gru's greatest nemesis in the upcoming film.

Meanwhile, it was previously reported that "Despicable Me" is due for another sequel in the future, and its story will focus on Gru's younger days and descent to wickedness.

Directed by Pierre Coffin, Kyle Balda and Eric Guillon and written by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, "Despicable Me 3" is set to hit theaters on Friday, June 30.
