'Destiny 2' Guide: How to Unlock New Subclasses

Players new to "Destiny 2" might get confused with the way the game introduces its new subclasses, as the first missions force them to play as a Sentinel, Dawnblade or Arcstrider. Reclaiming a relic, however, puts these choices back on the table. Listed below are the ways to earn them.

"Destiny 2" starts with three main classes — Titan, Warlock and Hunter. At the start, players will have their pick of subclasses from Striker Titan, Voidwalker Warlock and Gunslinger Hunter. The game later takes them away, though, forcing guardians to stick to the Sentinel Titan, Dawnblade Warlock or Arcstrider Hunter, at least for the first few levels according to Polygon.

Reclaiming a subclass relic item lets a character earn the lost subclasses back, and adds new ones to the mix. These items appear in random chests scattered throughout missions and other activities. They also seem to reliably show up in Lost Sectors and Public Events.

The order that they appear for a class is not random, either. A Titan, for example, will always get the Striker subclass back, before getting a chance to unlock the Sunbreaker class. Same goes for the Warlock, who earns its Voidwalker spec before the Stormcaller. Hunters unlock the Gunslinger, then move on to the Nightstalker.

Relics are tied to every subclass. Therefore, Titans will find the Striker's Battered Gauntlet first, and then, the Melted Hammer of the Sunbreaker will likely show up next. Warlocks get the Warped Armlet for the VoidWalker before the Stormcaller's Cracked Talisman. Aspiring Gunslingers have to find the Melted Hand Cannon first, and then possibly move on to be a Nightstalker with the Fractured Arrow relic.

Once a subclass in unlocked and selected, players can then move on to unlocking skills for that subclass. A character earns an Upgrade Point with every level up, as well as from rewards for completing Adventures and other activities, according to Eurogamer.
