'Destiny 2' Release Date Set for 2016?

Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of first person shooting video game "Destiny 2," and while Bungie and Activision are still keeping mum on the release date, rumors are pointing at a possible 2016 debut.

"Destiny," the first installment of the franchise, was released last year in September to the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Xbox 360, jumpstarting Bungie's move into a new franchise after its successful "Halo" series.

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg has hinted to fans that a sequel is already in the works.

When asked about making more for the "Destiny" game series, he stated, "Work has also begun on future expansion packs, as well as on our next full game release."

He also confirmed that Activision had a 10-year vision for the franchise, which wasn't surprising considering the success of the first game. It counted 9.5 million registered users and garnered up to $325 million in the first five days of sales.

Since then, speculations have it that "Destiny 2" is coming out sometime next year, with others even pointing at a likely spring 2016 debut.

A major leak from Bungie seemed to point at a late 2016 or early 2017 release though.

A photo of an internal meeting at the company was posted online, and while the image was somewhat blurry, some were able to make out the details of what Bungie has planned for the franchise in the next two years.

March will see the release of a second expansion pack called "House of Wolves," while September will see another expansion pack released titled "Plague of Darkness," coinciding with the first year anniversary of "Destiny."

March 2016 will get another pack, while the summer of that year will have the last pack "Forge of Gods" before "Destiny 2" comes late 2016 or early 2017.

Activision and Bungie have neither confirmed nor denied the photo. The information still remains sketchy, but fans can at least rest assured that there are more "Destiny" games to come.
