'Destiny' Spring Update Brings New Gear, Quest, Challenges and More in April

Bungie has set a date for the release of "Destiny's" Update 2.2.0, otherwise known as the April Update. The developer also teased the new content that will be included in the game's spring update.

The new update is expected to bring the first PvE challenges since September, along with new rewards, and updates for "Destiny's" sandbox and crucible (PvP). The maximum Light level cap, which was set to level 40 in September, will also be increased. A new quest called Blighted Chalice Strike will be introduced which could bring players back to the Hellmouth on the Moon, according to data mining reports. New and updated gear will also be available, which could be a new set of Prison of Elders or Taken-inspired armour as suggested by the accompanying screenshot from the announcement.

The "Destiny" April Update, or Update 2.2.0, will be rolling out on April 12 and will be free for anyone who already owns "Destiny: The Taken King." The update appears to mainly target serious fans of the game due to the lack of new maps or enemies and other "meatier" content, according to Engadget.

As the teased information don't provide much to go by, Bungie will be hosting three Twitch events each week at 11 a.m. Pacific leading up to the update's release date. The first live stream event will be held this Wednesday where the developer is expected to reveal "new things to do" or in-game activities. Next Wednesday, March 30, Bungie will provide details on "new things to earn" referring to the brand new rewards that's coming, while on April 6, the developer will be detailing updates related to sandbox and Crucible.

In addition to the "Destiny" April Update, Bungie is also expected to launch a new expansion later this year. Meanwhile, a sequel has been announced and is slated to debut in 2017.
