'Destiny: The Taken King' 2016 Updates: Bungie Dismisses 'The Dark Below II' Rumor, Teases 'Great Stuff' Planned For Next Year

Bungie has its sight set on the next year, promising "great stuff" are a-coming while debunking rumors concerning a "The Dark Below II" sequel.

In its weekly update, Bungie denied the existence of "The Dark Below II: Darker and Lower." Bungie's marketing director Eric "Urk" Osborne said that the rumored sequel "The Dark Below II: Darker and Lower" is "not a real project in development."

While hope for ongoing development of the sequel has been shut down, Bungie has had to make clear to the "Destiny: The Taken King" community what its plans for the game really were. Players expressed concerns about waiting for the next "Destiny" sequel before they could get new content, so Osborne took to Twitter in an attempt to calm down the community.

"Hey. 2016 is gonna be great," Osborne said on Twitter. "We're working on stuff. Fun stuff, that's still in development. SRL is live today, though! We hope you dig it!"

This unrest resulted from senior designer Derek Carroll's interview with Eurogamer on Monday where he said Bungie was "moving to a more event-based model," like the Sparrow Racing League that runs for three weeks only, for "Destiny's" Year Two.

Bungie has cleared this up in the weekly update, teasing what's in store for players next year. Osborne said they are planning events, activities, content, and features in 2016, with some events and activities being added to the game's Director.

Osborne teased that the first of these events will come early 2016 and will be close to the Festival of the Lost in terms of scale, while the second will be "far larger" than anything they've released for the game so far.

The updates are scheduled to be released across Winter and Spring 2016. A"significant update" to the world and sandbox is also planned in the same time window.
