'Destiny: The Taken King' Sparrow Racing League: Three-Week Event Features Two Maps, Aerodynamic Suits Plus Other Details
Bungie has announced a special event that "Destiny: The Taken King" players can participate in this month. For three weeks, players can participate in Sparrow Racing League and win rewards.
Taking off on Tuesday, Dec. 8, the Sparrow Racing League is a "free-for-all death race through enemy territory." In the game, a player can compete against five other players to earn rewards and be recognized as the fastest gamer in the "Destiny" and Bungie community when the race ends after three weeks of competition on Dec. 29.
In the video below, Bungie's Live Team discusses the mechanics, gameplay, and other details about the Sparrow Racing League event (skip to 2:08 mark).
First off, players will be able to suit up in aerodynamic outfits, although they're pretty much free to wear whatever they want like raid gear, exotics, or masks.
As for the Sparrows, there will be a base model and a bunch of variations players can choose from.
The race will be held in Mars and Venus. Mars is an easy track, says designer Bill Gross, while Venus will be a more advanced track. Mars' map is called Campus Martius; it's a circuit that runs through the buried city on Mars. Venus' map, on the other hand, is called Infinite Descent because players will always be going downhill until they hit a teleporter at the end that sends them back to the top. Venus will also feature many shortcuts like one through a waterfall.
There will also be turbo boosts to aid players, but enemy AIs will be a challenge. But for the Live Team, the race is really about a player's performance on the track. It will test players' ability to drive and whether they can boost in the right time.
Participants will have to look for Quartermaster Amanda Holliday in the Tower for more details about the event.
