Detroit Lions Quarterback Matthew Stafford Dealing With Hamstring and Ankle Injuries
It appears that the Detroit Lions have been trying to keep some injury information under wraps.
According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, quarterback Matthew Stafford sustained a hamstring injury and a sprained ankle in their 27–24 loss to the Carolina Panthers last Sunday, and his status for this Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints is uncertain. However, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has reported that the Lions are optimistic he will play on Sunday.
Stafford was a full participant during Wednesday's practice, but MLive.com's Kyle Meinke has noted that he was clearly favoring his right leg and he was wearing a protective sleeve.
"His throws seemed as crisp and accurate as usual, but he also didn't move around much either," Meinke said in his report. "All his throws came out of shotgun looks, and he took a few more breaks than usual as the offense worked against air during the 20 minutes that were open to the media," he added.
Reporters have been trying to get Stafford to shed some light on the status of his leg and ankle, but so far the veteran quarterback has refused to talk about it.
"Feel OK. You guys can figure (out if I'm going to play) through the week. Coach handles a lot of that stuff," Stafford stated before Wednesday's practice, via the Detroit Free Press.
Lions head coach Jim Caldwell also had a snarky response for reporters who were trying to get him to talk about Stafford's injuries.
"You're trying to find a roundabout way of asking how he is or what his injury is. Check the report," he said.
Well, according to the report, Stafford is only dealing with an ankle injury.
Stafford has been getting sacked a lot lately and his lack of mobility will make him an easy target for the Saints if he plays this Sunday.
