Detroit Lions Safety Glover Quin Clears Concussion Protocol, Set to Play on Sunday Against the Steelers

Looks like Detroit Lions safety Glover Quin is going to keep his iron-man streak alive.

The Pro Bowler's streak of 122 consecutive games started seemed to be in danger of ending after he suffered a concussion in the third quarter of their 52–38 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 16.

Fortunately, the Lions' bye week couldn't have come at a better time. Quin had an extra week to recover and he has now been cleared the National Football League's (NFL) concussion protocol and he is expected to suit up for the Lions when they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday.

Quin was rendered nearly unconscious when teammate A'Shawn Robinson's knee struck his head while he was trying to tackle Saints running back Alvin Kamara and he didn't move for several minutes after he took the hit.

The veteran safety would eventually walk off the field with the help of trainers and he was immediately taken to the locker room. Well, nobody was really surprised when he was diagnosed with a concussion.

"It was scary," Quin said on Thursday, via ESPN. "Just to be honest with you, it was scary, you know? Playing football for a long time and never had a play like that one. But it was just an unfortunate situation because I've had many plays like that, it just never had that result.

"But it happens and, you know, just a part of the game. It's a risk we take every time we go out there to play. I've just been fortunate for so many years and it happened, that's part of it," he continued.

Quin also claimed that he would have played last week if they didn't have a bye.

The safety's 122 consecutive starts is currently the seventh-longest streak in the NFL and it is a Lions franchise record as well.
