Detroit Lions vs. San Francisco 49ers: Watch Live Stream Online
The San Francisco 49ers look to continue with their winning form when they host the Detroit Lions who managed to pull out a victory against the St. Louis Rams in week one.
The 49ers started this year on a positive note with an impressive 30-22 win at Green Bay who finished last year with a 15-1 record.
49ers quarterback Alex Smith showed poise and good decision making as he threw 211 yards with a pair of touchdowns while completing 20 of 26 passes. Smith also broke long time San Francisco and Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young's franchise record when he completed his 185th consecutive pass without an interception.
49ers Kicker David Akers also received praise this week after he tied an NFL record when he made a 63-yard field goal during Sunday's win.
"It's a big win," running back Frank Gore told reporters during a press conference Monday. "We've got to keep going, keep working ... try to get better and try to get a victory this week."
The Lions hope to add to their winning ways but will have to eliminate some of the mistake they made in week one when they line up against a much stronger 49ers defense that was among the tops in the league in takeaways last year.
Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford must do a better job of protecting the football after he was intercepted three times in the first half of last week's game. He did finish the game stronger than he started by completing seven of nine passes on his team's final possession which included a 5-yard touchdown to running back Kevin Smith with 10 seconds to go in the game.
"If there are games you circle, this should definitely be one of the games," Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson told the team's website.
History is not on the Lions side given the last time the Lions beat the 49ers was on Sept. 25, 1995.
Coverage for the game starts at 8 p.m. and can be watched on NBC or online here.
