The standings currently show the Pistons holding seventh in the East with a 40-35 record. However, they are only 1.0 games ahead of the Indiana Pacers who are eighth and Chicago are only 2.0 games behind the Pistons with a pending matchup later on in the week.
If the Pistons lose this game and lose to the Bulls, they can lose as much as 1.5 games and drop out of the playoff picture in the last few days.
In order to avoid that, they must get a big win over a Mavericks team who are also looking to add to their win column to make it to the playoffs.
Similar to the Pistons, the Mavericks find themselves seventh in the Eastern Conference. However, things are extremely tight as they have the exact same record as the Utah Jazz who are eighth in the West and are only 0.5 games ahead of the Houston Rockets who are trying to unseat either one of the two to secure their playoff spot.
This shapes up to make this battle extremely interesting as both are looking for big wins to help their respective causes.
Looking at their head-to-head matchup, the Pistons hold a slight advantage as they already beat the Mavericks earlier in the season in a 102-96 win in Texas.
Look for them to hopefully sweep the Mavericks, while Dallas are going to do everything they can to push for the win.
