Detroit Red Wings NHL Trade Rumors: Thomas Vanek May Be Moved Before Trade Deadline
Left winger Thomas Vanek probably knew what he was getting into when he signed a one-year, $2.6 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings. If the team remains in contention for a playoff spot, they would have looked to add more pieces to strengthen their roster. Unfortunately, the Red Wings stumbled out of the gates and they are currently at last place in the Eastern Conference.
Now, Vanek has become one of the most sought-after rental on the trade market and a lot of teams probably have him on their radar. Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe believes the Red Wings can probably get a second-round pick in return if they choose to trade him, and Adam Getz of FanRag Sports said they may even get a first-round pick in exchange for Vanek.
Vanek seems to have revitalized his career this season. He has made 14 goals and 22 assists in 44 games so far, but he has also missed 13 games due to injuries.
Meanwhile, Vanek is completely aware that he can be traded anytime, but he's taking a wait and see approach until the trade deadline.
"Wait and see, wait for a phone call I guess for someone to let me know if I'm staying or going," he stated, according to the Detroit News.
He said he wants to stay in Detroit, but he also understands that it's not up to him to decide.
"It's a business and Kenny (general manager Ken Holland) has to make a decision at the same time. If there is a deal to be made and it's right on both sides, would it surprise me if he would move me? If he get something good, not at all," he said.
CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin thinks the Philadelphia Flyers, the Los Angeles Kings, and the Ottawa Senators should keep an eye on him.
