'Diablo 3' Season 4 Goes Live Over the Weekend

"Diablo III" Season 4 is now live after launching on PC and Mac over the weekend, opening new challenges and opportunities for players.

"Diablo III" players reaching level 70 in the new season will be rewarded with special gear, an incentive for fans to start off Season 4 of the action role-playing game after it kicked off over the weekend for PC and Mac.

While "Diablo III," Blizzard Entertainment's third installation in their popular "Diablo" franchise has been around for three years now, the Irvine, California-based game developer has continued to keep the game fresh with its regular Seasons patches.

Seasons allow players to amass currency, recipes, materials, items, Artisan progress, and Paragon experience they can carry over to their regular profile once the Season ends.

While optional, the Season patch updates offer players exclusive Achievement pursuits, and Conquests that present all-new challenges, and present players with an opportunity to start the game off fresh.

Season 4 (Patch 2.3) progress will be tracked through leaderboards with personal accomplishments recorded on the new Seasons Journey interface. Even if players don't reach the top of the leaderboards, they can still have the chance to earn new items for their characters, such as unlocking a frame for their characters' portrait, complete with a cosmetic pet. By the time they hit level 70, their character will get its own Conqueror's breastplate and a transmogrification helmet.

Season 4 also offers a loot bag filled with all-new Legendary items that won't be available for non-Season characters, including a Witch Doctor necessity called Henri's Perquisition, said to be made out of cat matter.

With the recently-added Kanai's Cube, Legendaries now add more value to the game. The Cube artifact allows players to deconstruct Legendaries and equip their character with its special effects, and upgrade a Rare item to a Legendary, among its many other uses.

With Season 4 introducing a new zone, the icy Ruins of Sescheron, players can stem boredom with a fresh character and new difficulty levels.

While "Diablo III's" Seasons are exclusively available for PC and Mac, Blizzard has announced they may implement the patches for XBox One and PlayStation 4 in the future, although a timeline has yet to be announced.
