'Diablo 3' Seasons News Update: May Come to PS4 and Xbox One Soon
Blizzard has hinted the PC exclusive "Diablo III" Seasons may be coming to PS4 and Xbox One in the future.
PlayStation 4 and Xbox One console players may soon be getting the "Diablo III" Seasons feature, developer Blizzard Entertainment explained in an interview with IGN Friday.
The Seasons feature was initially exclusive for PC, enabling players to craft new characters to complete their Conquest objectives. "Diablo III" players participating in a Season get to acquire exclusive cosmetic and Legendary items. The game's leaderboards also keep track of the Seasons' top performers from around the world.
Earlier on, Blizzard mentioned it had no plans to bring Seasons to consoles due their "offline and disconnected nature." Unlike PS4 and Xbox One game editions, "Diablo III" on PC doesn't require a continuous Internet connection to run the Seasons leaderboards.
Unable to support leaderboards to establish a consistent online community, PS4 and Xbox One consoles were excluded from Seasons, subsequently garnering a volume of negative feedback from console players who felt left out from the PC exclusive loot items.
Senior game producer Rob Foote told IGN Blizzard will be re-evaluating the possibility of Seasons for consoles, noting that leaderboards and an online community may not be the most important part of Seasons since a majority of players aren't gunning for the top performance spots and may be more interested in the bonus items instead.
Blizzard also added the news it will not be developing added player-versus-player game content, and will instead stick to PvE, considered to be the best part of the "Diablo" games. Adding PvP content may end up hurting the PvE aspect of the game, technical game designer Wyatt Cheng explained.
Initial PvP content arrived months after "Diablo III" launched in May 2012, clearly a low priority for Blizzard developers who would rather have players compete via Season accomplishments instead of fight each other in the game.
Foote did not give a timeline of when Blizzard will announce their decision to add Seasons for PS4 and Xbox One, instead announcing the "Diablo III" Season 4 launch on August 28, Friday.
