'Die Hard 6' Latest News: Casting Now Open for Young John McClane
It looks like the new installment to the classic "Die Hard' franchise could see a return Len Wiseman takes the helm for the next title of the action movie series. The production team is also reportedly casting around for an actor to play a younger John McClane.
Len Wiseman, who led the vampire-themed "Underworld," is now back in the director's seat for the next "Die Hard" movie. Wiseman helmed "Live Free or Die Hard," and this will be his second time following the explosive adventures of John McClane in what could be a departure from the normal timeline of the movies.
While the details of the plot for this new "Die Hard: Year One" movie is still under wraps, segments of it could possibly serve as a sort-of prequel for the first "Die Hard," according to Deadline. The earlier years of John McClane could go as far back as the 1970's and could be set in New York when the younger McClane was just starting out in law enforcement.

The movie is also set to cover present-day John McClane, with Bruce Willis having been confirmed to be back for the new movie. While McClane, now turned vigilante, is coping his new life years after the events of "Live Free or Die Hard," the actor who will be playing John McClane the beat cop has a more complicated role to take on.
"The right casting for this role is crucial," Wiseman noted about the casting for the 1970's McClane. "Those bare feet have some very big shoes to fill," he added, an homage to the first "Die Hard" where McClane sheds footwear at some point.
The franchise first got its huge start with the 1988 "Die Hard" movie, a classic that went on to become a holiday staple and led to four more sequels, all following the iconic John McClane, according to the Daily Express. Bruce Willis, now 62-years old, was reluctant at first to join the new project, perhaps not too confident that he can live up to the original.
"The first one really is... that's all there is. Everything else is just trying to be as good as that film," he said, referring to the first "Die Hard" movie.
