DirecTV Now Coming to Roku This Month

Technical support agents of DirecTV Now reportedly continue to promise that the streaming service is going to be added to Roku before this month ends.

DirecTV Now is a subscription-based service operated by the U.S. carrier AT&T. It was launched in Nov. 30 of last year and streams shows – through an internet connection – from some of the biggest networks, such as NBCUniversal, AMC, Discovery, Disney, and more. DirecTV Now also allows its subscribers to add other channels such as HBO and Cinemax.

On the other hand, Roku is another streaming service that makes use of digital media players or boxes. Streaming is made possible through a Wi-Fi connection or an internet router. Roku players support the most sought-after streaming networks such as Netflix, Amazon Cloud Player, BBC iPlayer, Google Play Movies & TV, HBO Go, PBS, YouTube, and more.

It can be recalled that when Roku made an appearance at the TCL press event during the CES conference last January, the company announced that they would be adding the DirecTV Now services in the "next few weeks."

However, now that the first quarter of 2017 is almost up, and consumers have not heard any updates from both companies, questions are starting to pile up on whether or not the earlier announcement will push through soon as promised.

According to a report from Cord Cutters News, whenever they call DirecTV Now's technical support to ask about the service's addition to Roku streaming players, agents would constantly answer that it will happen on March 31st.

However, noting that March 31 is far beyond the "next few weeks" promise of Roku back in January, the same Cord Cutters News report considers the possibility that AT&T must be aiming to "under promise and over deliver." It is also likely that technical support agents might have been ordered to answer with "the last possible day so if it comes early it's a nice surprise."

Meanwhile, there is also the chance that while DirecTV Now is being tested for Roku streaming players, there have been more bugs or issues encountered that the companies want to address first so they will have to deal with the least number of problems possible upon release.
