Star Wars Theme Park at Disneyland and Disney World: New parks sure to delight Jedi fans

It was announced that Disney plans to build "Star Wars-" themed lands in selected Disney theme parks.

Since Disney acquired Lucasfilm last 2012, fans were hoping for a possible "Star Wars" theme park. After years of speculation, it was revealed during Disney's annual D23 Expo that Disneyland Anaheim, California and Disney World Resort Orlando, Florida will receive a Star Wars-themed land.

Disney CEO Bob Iger shared his excitement of the park in the Disney Parks blog. He said, "I am thrilled to announce the next chapter in the long and exciting history between Disney Parks and Star Wars. We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single-themed land expansion ever. These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure."

Along with the announcements, a concept art of the park attraction teased the expo attendees. It will be presented as a new planet with restaurants and stores managed by local inhabitants of the planet. The teaser also showed that there will be beasts all around the park.

The Star Wars land will feature the renowned Cantina and a Millenium Falcon ride. The ride will include secret missions that will engage riders in a battle between the first order and the resistance.

E! News stated that it will be available in Disneyland by the end of 2017. However, Disney has not yet revealed the opening dates for the upcoming Star Wars land. It was reported that Disney recently purchased 14 acres of land for the park's expansion. Meanwhile, the upcoming Star Wars film and the Disneyland ride called "Star Tours" can appease fans before the park extension's opening.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is expected to release on Dec. 18 this year. It will be the first of a trilogy and the first installment to be produced by Disney.
