'Gigantic' movie plot news: Disney tackles 'Jack and the Beanstalk'

Disney announced its upcoming plans for a new musical based on the well-known fairy tale "Jack and The Beanstalk."

Announced during Disney's annual D23 Expo, plans for Disney's upcoming animated movie revealed that "Tangled" director Nathan Greno will be leading the project, along with Dorothy McKim. Titled "Gigantic," the film will follow an 11-year-old giant girl named Imma and her encounter with Jack.

It was explained that Gigantic will not be a direct adaptation of the well-known story; instead, it will take place in Spain, set in the time of the Age of Discovery. Jack will explore an entire world of giants, meeting Imma, who thinks he is a toy. They both go on a journey, put up against the Storm Giants, a group of giants spreading destruction.

Greno has big hopes for the film, expecting it to make an impact. He described it as a "tearjerker," which is not expected from the original story. He said, "If we do our jobs right, we hope this will become the definitive version."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the production is already in progress, with Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez in charge of the songs for the upcoming film. They are best known for their songs from hit animated film "Frozen."

Those who attended the expo saw a clip promoting the upcoming film. It showed Jack climbing a beanstalk, discovering giants. Imma then starts chasing after him. After a while, they are both seen bonding with Jack riding a strand of her hair. It also featured a song, with Imma singing, "I love my little man, I love my little man, you can make him do this, you can make him do this. You can wash him in a dish, be care he gets ticklish, my teeny little man. In a life that's kind of lonely, I thought if only, I had a little man."

Gigantic is expected to premiere by 2018.
