'Dissidia Final Fantasy NT' News: Devs Provide More Details About the Main Storyline

The goddess Materia and the god Spiritus figure prominently into the story

Even though "Dissidia Final Fantasy NT" is a fighting game, there is a story featured inside of it that players can continue to unravel as they make progress.

Recently, additional details about this main narrative were provided by the developers.

While going through the main storyline, players will be introduced to two powerful beings known as Materia and Spiritus, DualShockers reported. However, players should not confuse this game's Materia with the power-granting objects included inside "Final Fantasy 7."

In this game, Materia is known as the goddess of machinery, as seen in the Final Fantasy Wiki, and she possesses incredible powers that can be rivaled by only one other being.

That other being is none other than Spiritus.

According to his own Wiki entry, Spiritus is known as the Savage God of Destruction who utilizes magic to leave nothing but devastation in his wake.

Materia and Spiritus are sworn enemies, and they are locked in an ongoing struggle for control of the multiverse.

This is where the other characters in "Dissidia Final Fantasy NT" come in.

Materia and Spiritus have the power to call upon heroes from different worlds - heroes who will be familiar to long-time fans of the "Final Fantasy" series.

Terra Branford and Kefka Palazzo from "Final Fantasy 6" are in the game, and the same is true for "Final Fantasy 7's" Cloud and Sephiroth. Zidane Tribal and Kuja from "Final Fantasy 9" are also among those who were summoned.

Interestingly, the game's roster is made up of both protagonists and antagonists from earlier "Final Fantasy" titles, and it will be interesting to see if they will remain on opposing sides even in their new surroundings.

There are also some newcomers set to be introduced in the upcoming game, and the story will apparently touch on them being confused with the things that are going on.

"Dissidia Final Fantasy NT" is set to be released on Jan. 30.
