DJ Rashad Cause of Death: Autopsy Due Sunday After Rashad Harden's Death, Drugs Suspected
DJ Rashad has died, according to reports on Saturday, after being found unresponsive on the Chicago West Side at about 1.30 p.m. local time. The cause of death is a suspected drug overdose, although an autopsy report will be used to confirm the precise cause.
The death of DJ Rashad – who was born Rashad Harden – was announced by DJ Godfather. DJ Rashad and DJ Godfather were set to perform together in Detroit on Saturday night.
DJ Godfather wrote, "I'm hearing some very disturbing news I need a confirmation about…DJ Rashad passed away."
According to The Chicago Tribune, drug paraphernalia and other narcotics were found at the scene where his body was found.
The autopsy was scheduled to take place on Sunday.
DJ Rashad was found unresponsive in the early afternoon on Saturday, and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to various media reports.
Rashad was set to release his new EP, "We On 1" – available on vinyl - on April 28.
A collaborator, Chance The Rapper, took to Twitter to write: "Music lost a legend today. And he was my friend. Love you DJ Rashad. RIP."
His father, Anthony Harden, has told the Sun Times: "Since he was a kid, he's been doing this. He knew what he wanted to do, and a lot of us don't get a chance to make our dream come true."
