According to Radio Times, the executive producer of the series Steven Moffat recently shared some information about what fans can expect from the upcoming episode. He finally explained that the episode will take place in 2012, after the event of The Angels Take Manhattan.

Her return has also caused many fans to speculate if she will be back to accompany the Doctor now that he had just lost his companion. The previous episode of "Doctor Who" season 9 saw the vicious death of Clara. However, Moffat addressed the rumors and explained his reasons for River's return.
He said that since they had just lost Clara, he did not want to bring in a new regular companion for the Doctor. However, he did bring River Song because he felt like that was the last time he was going to write for "Doctor Who."
