'Doctor Who' Season 9 Cast News: 'Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams to Guest Star in Upcoming Episode

Filming on season 9 of "Doctor Who" is currently underway, with Steven Moffat back as head writer and show runner. Fans of the show are looking forward to the upcoming season as Peter Capaldi will be reprising his role as The Doctor, and Jenna Coleman will also be back as his companion, Clara Oswald.

Though Moffat is known to be very closed-lip when it comes to spoilers, one thing that viewers can look forward to is a special guest star for season 9—Maisie Williams. Williams has already found global fame and is renowned for her role as Arya Stark in the hit HBO fantasy series "Game of Thrones."

According to BBC, on her first day on the set of "Doctor Who," Williams said, "I'm so excited to be working on 'Doctor Who' as it's such a big and important part of British culture. I can't wait to meet the cast and crew and start filming, especially as we'll be shooting not too far from my home town."

"We're thrilled to have Maisie Williams joining us on 'Doctor Who'. It's not possible to say too much about who or what she's playing, but she is going to challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways," Moffat said. "This time he might just be out of his depth, and we know Maisie is going to give him exactly the right sort of hell."

According to Screen Rant, filming is ongoing for the episodes titled "The Girl Who Died" and "The Woman Who Lived," and the website speculates that Williams might appear in the aforementioned episodes given the timing of her announcement.

"Doctor Who" season 9 will begin airing on BBC One in Autumn 2015.
