'Doctor Who' season 9 plot news: Where's the Doctor?

A new trailer for the season 9 of "Doctor Who" reveals that the Doctor, played by Pater Capaldi, is missing.

The video released shows Missy's (Michelle Gomez) return to accompany Clara, played by Jenna Coleman, on her search for the Doctor. The two are expected to get along, while they try to find out what happened to the doctor. Steven Moffat shared details of the premiere of season 9. He told SFX Magazine, "This is the opening two-parter. It features lots of Daleks, and this time we mean it. Clara receives a mysterious summons and has to team up with Missy to search for the Doctor in a very, very old place."

The synopsis for the premiere episode reads, "Where is the Doctor? When the skies of Earth are frozen by a mysterious alien force, Clara needs her friend. But where is the Doctor, and what is he hiding from? As past deeds come back to haunt him, old enemies will come face-to-face, and for the Doctor and Clara survival seems impossible."

It was hinted that the Doctor put himself in a lot of trouble, taking part in a fighting ring. While he does not have any weapons, it was shown that his opponent had an ace. However, the trailer did not reveal any scenes with the Doctor taking down other villains. Nevertheless, it revealed among the new creatures in the episode to come, fans can expect the return of a familiar creature named Dalek. The upcoming season is expected to give the Doctor his most difficult challenge yet. He will be deciding whether to kill a child, which will alter the timeline and save millions of lives. The actor behind the Doctor also shared that his character will be presented a "conflict central to his being."

Doctor Who returns with its ninth season this Sept. 19.
