Dodge Dart 2013, 41 MPG on Gas Figure Enough to Beat Competitors? (VIDEO)

The new 2013 Dodge Dart is predicted to get up to 41 miles per gallon of gas on the highway, but will those numbers be high enough to challenge its competitors?

The Dodge Chrysler company has recently boasted that its new Dodge Dart can reach up to 41 mpg on gas which, though impressive perhaps for the type of car, may not be enough for the company to compete with it's fellow car makers. Ford and Hyundai have both set the standard of fuel efficiency at 40 mpg, a number that the new Dodge Dart will achieve only if customers pay extra for the special "Aero" package.

Without the frills and thrills, the standard 4-cylinder Dart which runs upwards of $16,000 is projected to get 25 mpg city / 36 mpg highway. The next upgrade can achieve 27 mpg city / 39 mpg highway, but still falls short of competitors 40 mile mark.

Of course the Dodge Dart won't be depending on good gas mileage alone. Aside from having a sleek exterior that will likely appeal to many younger buyers in the market, the car will also utilize a vertical climate control system to make space for an electronics compartment. The new compartment has been designed to hold gadgets like Apple's iPad.

"Usually the space behind the dashboard is eaten up by ductwork for the climate control vents, but Dodge was able to reconfigure the piping, and lay out the control system to fit better behind the so-called center stack that houses the controls," USA Today reported. "The glove box will hold computer items, such as a tablet, which should appeal to the savvy young folk Dodge hopes will consider the Dart."

The SXT will be the first available upgrade, and will run consumers an estimated $18,790. Dodge will also be unearthing the Rallye model, which will start at $19,790 with the most expensive soon to come RT model estimated to run upwards of $23,000.
