Donald Trump Visits South Korea News: Trip to DMZ Postponed; Leaders Discuss North Korea Violence
United States President Donald Trump cancelled his trip to the demilitarized zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea during his trip to visit President Moon Jae-in. Meanwhile, both leaders address hot issues regarding North Korea's attacks.
It was on President Trump's agenda to visit the DMZ, and South Korean President Moon was more than willing to accompany him if he decides to push through with it, Reuters confirmed.
However, after two attempts to pass by the zone dividing North and South Korea, President Trump has cancelled this trip due to extreme fog.
Meanwhile, Trump and Moon addressed the issues that concern both South Korea and the United States regarding the violent attacks and threats made by North Korea.
Trump began his meeting with President Moon by laying down that North Korea will be at the "front and center" of their agenda, Bloomberg confirmed, while the South Korean President praised him for spearheading international efforts to stop Pyeongyang's nuclear missile threats.
It is in South Korea's best interest to strengthen an alliance with the United States, given that they share the same adversary in North Korea. President Moon houses over 28,000 United States troops, and his alliance with the country will help in defending South Korea from any threats from their neighboring country.
However, President Moon wants to make sure that he will call the shots when it comes to keeping South Korea from going into war with the North.
Aside from the discussion about North Korea, President Trump also addressed concerns regarding military sales and their insufficient trade business.
President Moon also hosted a bountiful state dinner with President Trump as their guest of honor, along with First Lady Melania Trump, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Jared Kushner. The South Korean President will be accompanied by his foreign, finance, and defense officials, along with Sk Group Chairman Chey Tae Won and Hyundai Motor Co. Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun.
