'Doom' on Nintendo Switch Will Not Have the SnapMap Level Editor

The Switch version of Bethesda Softworks' and id Software's first-person shooter video game "Doom," which is set for release later this year, will not include some key features.

According to Eurogamer, the shooter that will be designed for the Nintendo console will not feature the SnapMap level editor that is included in its PS4, Xbox One and PC versions. This is reportedly to cut down the game's file size and to make sure that it will run smoothly as with the other platforms.

SnapMap allows players to create customized maps and edit the game logic for an entirely new gameplay experience. When "Doom" is officially launched on the Switch, gamers should take note that various user-generated maps and modes from the original's expansion will not be available.

Also not included in the game cartridge is the multiplayer feature. With the Switch's limited 32GB of internal memory, it cannot hope to accommodate "Doom's" 76.78GB on the PS4 version. Players who will purchase the physical set need to download the multiplayer feature separately. Bethesda says it will be a free update. Those who will buy the digital set, however, will get the feature in one big download. Eurogamer reports that judging from the teaser released, the downgrade does not seem to make the Switch version any less compared to those from the other platforms.

Meanwhile, "Doom" is not the only Bethesda AAA current-gen title to come to Nintendo. According to Digital Trends, "Wolfenstein II," the first-person shooter action-adventure video game, is also set for a console release. It will be launched sometime in 2018. The additions will make the total number of major Switch offerings from the game developer up to three. "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" is set to join the Nintendo family on Nov. 17 in both North America and Europe. Its port will reportedly include motion controls, Zelda-themed armor, and Amiibo functionality.
