'DOOM' to Launch With 6 Multiplayer Modes
The much-awaited reboot of the "Doom" franchise is coming to the PS4, the Xbox One and PC on May 13. But even before the game's release, it will have a closed multiplayer beta from March 31 to April 3, according to a report in Polygon. Game developer Bethesda has also shared details about what content is in store for players when the game launches.
Through a short trailer, Bethesda showcased the six multiplayer modes for the game and give gamers an initial look at gameplay in these new multiplayer modes. Out of the six, three are considered by the Polygon report as more "traditional" or conventional. These include "Domination," wherein teams have to capture three static capture points located on a map and try to maintain control over them as long as they can. The longer the capture, the more points can be had. Another one is "Team Deathmatch" which is basically getting the most number of kills within a time limit. "Clan Arena" is another, where players play "without pickups, respawns, or demon transformations" and the remaining team who lives through the deathmatch is the winner.
The other three are not the usual multiplayer modes. "Freeze Tag" is where players are frozen solid rather than killed, and teammates can unfreeze their allies in order to continue playing. The team who gets all of its players frozen will lose the match. "Soul Harvest" is a variant of Team Deathmatch, but players here need to "collect the soul" of killed players from the opposing team in order to score points. Lastly, there is "Warpath" which is basically a team trying to capture a control point which is not stationary but is moving. The team with the highest score after a time limit or is able to reach a preset score will win the match.
The game's closed multiplayer beta will be starting on March 31, with players who purchased "Wolfenstein: The New Order" prequalifying to participate in the closed beta.
