'Downton Abbey' Season 5 Release Date: First Trailer Out, Show Premiere January 2015 in the US
Changes, an illicit love affair, and a fire— all these are featured in the new first look trailer for "Downton Abbey" which has just been released by PBS.
The fifth season of "Downton Abbey" will reportedly use the election of Britain's First Labor government as its political backdrop, according to The Telegraph.
The year is 1924, which is the year when Ramsay MacDonald became prime minister, and in the video, the Earl of Grantham is shown having misgivings about what is going to happen in the near future.
"This government is committed to the destruction of people like us and everything we stand for," he says.
The video also shows snippets of what could be a scandalous love affair which shows an almost naked Jimmy Kent (Ed Speelers), who appears to be caught in the act, while Tom Branson (Allen Leech) shares a romantic kiss with an unidentified woman.
A fire is also seen, and a man carrying a woman is seen escaping from the fire. Could Downton Abbey be burning down?
The series will see guest stars Richard E. Grant and Anna Chancellor in the upcoming season. It will also feature the return of fan favorites Dame Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Jim Carter, Joanne Froggatt, Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Brendan Coyle, Rob-James Collier, Laura Carmichael, Allen Leech, Sophie McShera, Lily James and Tom Cullen.
"Downton Abbey" returns for its fifth season on the United Kingdom's ITV Network on Sept. 21, and in the U.S. on Jan. 5, 2015 on PBS.
