Dr Oz New, 'Edgy' Magazine to Debut in 2014

Dr. Mehmet Oz is launching his own health and wellness magazine in 2014, the TV personality, and physician, revealed. It is expected to be released with two test issues in early 2014.

"We want it to contain the upbeat content of the show, but it will be much more than that. I don't want it to be an earnest publication," Oz told the New York Post. "I want it to be edgy and one that respects the toughness of women."

Oz, who currently hosts his own talk show and has won five Emmy Awards, plans for the magazine to be a complement to the show. Fans often miss information Oz presents and "want something in the print experience to make sure they have it right," he explained.

The magazine will be published by the Hearst company, the same organization that publishes Oprah Winfrey's "O" magazine. Winfrey was the one who helped Oz become the household name that he is. She initially had him on her popular talk show for various segments, thus giving him the opportunity to make a name for himself.

Oz discussed his decision to sign with Hearst with Winfrey before committing to the company. Hearst is one of the most successful magazine-publishing houses and not only publishes "O" but recently introduced Food Network Magazine in 2008 and HGTV Magazine in 2011.

"It is a can-do, optimistic magazine about many things other than taking your temperature," editorial director of Hearst, Ellen Levine, told the Post.

The magazine does not have a title or editor yet, but Hearst plans to release that information within the next month. Oz will continue to contribute to Winfrey's magazine in his monthly column on health.

"This is about a lifestyle. Feeling great is the key to living well and this content will provide women with everything they need to feel inspired and live a long, healthy, joyful life," Oz said in the press release from Hearst.
