'Dragon Quest XI' News: More Storyline Details Revealed, Hint at the Challenges the Protagonist Will Face

'Dragon Quest XI's' protagonist is supposedly the reincarnation of some old 'hero'

In "Dragon Quest XI," players will be asked to step into the shoes of a young man whose life is about to take some dramatic turns.

Square Enix recently shared new details about the challenges that the young protagonist will face inside the game, and a report from Gematsu contains translations of the relevant bits of storyline information.

The game's protagonist hails from the peaceful village of Ishi, and for the longest time, the quiet confines of this place have helped him grow in relative anonymity.

That peace is shattered on the occasion of his 16th birthday, as he then finds out that he is no ordinary member of the village and that he is instead the reincarnation of some old "hero" apparently responsible for saving the world at one point in time.

Unsurprisingly, upon learning about this, the protagonist makes the decision to leave the village and understand his fate better.

Things don't go exactly as planned, however, as after making his way to Delcadar and meeting the king, the protagonist is told something else. The king reveals that the protagonist is apparently some kind of "demon child" and calls for his arrest.

The revelations cut off there, but it's clear that the protagonist of "Dragon Quest XI" will have many things to deal with as he continues his quest to learn more about who he is and what he is here to do.

A difficult journey of discovery likely waits for the protagonist, especially since a powerful king with an army of soldiers may be pointing their swords and spears at him whenever they get the chance.

Aiding the protagonist on this journey of his will be the previously announced characters Camus, Veronica and Senya, and there may be others too.

"Dragon Quest XI" is expected to be released for the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo 3DS inside Japan later this year.
