'Dragon Quest XI' Rumors: Will a Nintendo 3DS Version Be Released in the West?
PS4 version already expected to be made available to fans in the west
After months of anticipation, developers finally announced back in July that "Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age" will be heading west.
It was an announcement met with plenty of excitement by fans who have been following the game's development even knowing then that it was not exactly guaranteed to be released where they live.
Exciting as that announcement may have been, it did leave fans with some questions, however.
To be more specific, more than a few fans started to wonder about which platforms were going to support the new role-playing game once it was released in the west.
In Japan, the game is currently playable on the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo 3DS, and a Switch version is also in development.
According to an earlier report from DualShockers, the PS4 version of "Dragon Quest XI" is set to be released in the west, but details about the other variants remain unavailable.
It is no surprise that the Switch version remains unconfirmed for the west seeing as how it does not have even a release date yet in Japan, but the 3DS edition is another matter.
Some fans over on Twitter have already expressed concern that a 3DS version may not make its way west, and the lack of any new details being released is likely not helping things.
If there is some good news here for fans in the west, it is that the 3DS edition of the game has sold remarkably well in Japan. As a recent report from Forbes noted, more copies of the 3DS version were actually sold during the game's first two days on the market compared to the PS4 edition.
Not releasing the 3DS version in the west would be an unusual move, considering how much support it has received thus far.
For now, fans are just going to have to wait for the developers to announce which platforms are getting "Dragon Quest XI" once the game is released in the west. And with new details expected to be shared this fall, the wait may be ending soon.
