Drew Brees Small Tip, Player Defends $3 Tip on $75 Bill: It Was 'Takeout'
New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees has defended himself against reports accusing him for being "cheap" after his name was link to a $3 tip at a Chinese restaurant.
A number of reports surfaced in July that Drew Brees was a really terrible tipper. The negative press was based on a nearly $75 check of out a New Orleans Chinese restaurant. Brees signed off on a $3.00 tip for a $74.41 bill, based on a picture of the ticket, which was published by The Dirty.
But in a new statement, the NFL player has defended himself by stating that he left a small tip only because he had ordered off of the takeout menu.
"In case anyone still cares about this report: I tipped $3 on a takeout order. Had we sat down it would have been 20%+" Brees wrote on his Twitter account Tuesday.
The receipt in question is dated for July 9, more than two weeks ago. Controversy over tipping etiquette has since erupted, questioning how much celebrity's should be expected to tip. A second conversation over how much anyone should tip for carryout also erupted after the player's remark on Twitter. It is unclear however, who is responsible for sharing a picture of the receipt.
The waitress, who's name appears on the receipt underneath the name of the restaurant, could face termination, according to an update by TheDirty.com made earlier this week.
"I want to make it every clear to management at Del Mar Rendezvous that Carissa DID NOT submit this receipt of cheapo Drew Brees. Contacts at the restaurant have told me you will be meeting with her tonight to discuss termination. Drew Brees is the 3 dollar tipper, don't fire her because of his actions," a writer from the publication said in a post on Monday.
