Droid 4 vs. Droid Razr

The Droid 4 is the newest Android platform to be announced for Verizon and early reports put its launch date less than two weeks away on Dec. 8.

However, with the Droid Razr being on the market, many potential buyers are not sure which phone best suits their style. The two are very similar, being Droid handsets, but some key differences could shape the type of customer each phone would fit.

For starters, the Droid 4 has a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1 GB of RAM, which is virtually the same as the Razr in terms of capacity and power.

Another key specification both phones have is the capability to connect to Verizon’s 4G LTE Network, which the company purports to be 10 times faster than most handsets’ 3G connectivity.

Perhaps the biggest difference between Motorola’s two newest phones are the ways an owner would type: the Razr has a virtual keyboard that responds to screen taps, while the Droid 4 has a slide-out, physical tactile response. The keyboard will have five rows and side-lit keys.

Other specs relating to the Droid 4 are its camera, which boasts an 8 MP rear camera and another front-facing camera for video chatting.

The Droid 4 also has a 4-inch qHD display, which could disappoint some users; in comparison, the Razr has a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Advanced Display, which could be a tad better than the 4.

The Droid 4, when released, will be slated to compete with several other big sellers this holiday season, including the Razr, iPhone 4S, and the Galaxy Nexus. To do this, Motorola had to release the Droid 4 less than two months after the Razr.

Some users have voiced their disappointment at Motorola’s decision to reveal new handsets so quickly; the Droid 2 Global, the Droid Bionic, Droid 3, Droid RAZR, and Droid 4 have all been marketed in less than a years’ time.

“I think Motorola is pushing out phones too fast. They are competing with themselves,” complained one user on Droid-Life.com, a website dedicated to Droid phones.

Another user said that no matter which phone is purchased, there would always be some “buyers’ remorse” due to the speed with which technology improves.

Rumors of a Droid Razr with a 13 MP camera and a better HD display have already surfaced in China.
