Droid Turbo 2 update: Motorola's shatterproof smartphone to be released in October in the US

Motorola's shatterproof smartphone Droid Turbo 2 may be launched in the United States in October this year based on recent leaks.

Motorola's first version of the Droid Turbo was also released in October last year. If the new leaks prove to be true, then the Droid Turbo 2, which will be bigger than its predecessor, will be released exclusively to Verizon next month, according to India Today.

There were also reports that the second Droid Turbo smartphone will be called Moto X Force and will be released outside the United States by year-end. Europe and China will be among the confirmed locations of the December launch of the shatterproof phone, based on a report by leakster @upleaks.

The most popular feature expected in the Droid Turbo 2 is its unique shatterproof screen. The phone will reportedly be able to take splashes and light rain, plus it can be submerged for up to 30 minutes in a maximum of 3.2-feet water depth. Its rear side will also have a similar look with the Moto X Play and its sides will be rubberized, the report details.

While the original Droid Turbo has a 5.4-inch screen, the Droid Turbo 2 will reportedly sport a 5.43-inch QHD display and will run a Snapdragon 810 chip with 3 GB or RAM. It will also come with a 21-megapixel rear snapper and 5-megapixel front camera. The device will be powered by a 3,760 mAh battery and will have 32 GB and 64 GB internal memory variants, Latinos Post reports.

The Droid Turbo 2 may be available in three colors: white, red, and black, the report adds.
There are also rumors that the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 might use the Android 6.0 Marshmallow once it is released, along with some Verizon software. The upcoming shatterproof and waterproof smartphone may cost an estimated $620.

Motorola is expected to release more details about the Droid Turbo 2 in the coming days.
