Dwayne Johnson to Star in 'Big Trouble in Little China' Remake?

Reports have emerged Dwayne Johnson is in talks to star in the remake of eighties' cult classic "Big Trouble in Little China." The role was originally played by Kurt Russell in John Carpenter's 1986 cult classic.

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" helmer, Matt Reeves had earlier been hired to work on proposed remake of the film in 2011, and The Wrap reported Johnson is said to not only star in the new version, but also produce the film.

The remake reportedly has big name screenwriters already attached to pen the script, including "Thor" actress Ashley Miller and "X-Men: First Class" actor Zack Stentz, who are currently fleshing out the plot for 20th Century Fox.

An official announcement is expected any day now, and fans of the classic may eventually get to see the "Fast and Furious" actor taking on the 21st century iteration of Jack Burton.

In the original 1986 film, veteran actor, Kurt Russell, who appeared as Mr. Nobody in "Furious 7," played the role of a truck driver in San Francisco's Chinatown. On the way to the airport to pick up his friend, Wang Chi's (Dennis Dun) fiancée Miao Yin (Suzee Pai) arriving from China, he encounters a Chinese street gang who attempts to kidnap another Chinese girl to sell as a sex slave.

The Chinese girl's friend, Gracie (Kim Catrall) and Jack intervene to foil the crime, and the gang takes Miao Yin instead. Together with Wang, Jack tracks down the gang to their hideaway, but run over a powerful sorcerer. Oriental magic, ancient Chinese gods, legendary monsters, and chaos then ensues in a 20th century American setting.

Johnson, who is fresh off "San Andreas," is said to be a big fan of the original movie, and is reportedly working hard to nab the Jack Burton big rig truck driver role and do it justice.

No other details of the remake have surfaced so far, including who the rest of the cast will be.
