'Dynasty' Premiere Date, News: Actor in Original Show Calls the Reboot 'Insulting'

The CW is joining the bandwagon when it comes to reboots. Running on the network on Wednesday nights will be the modern version of "Dynasty."

One actor who was part of the original "Dynasty" in the '80s, however, is not happy with the upcoming show. Gordon Thomson, who played Adam Carrington in the old series, told The Daily Beast in an exclusive interview that The CW's updated take on the family drama is "an abomination."

The CW show changed a lot of elements in the reboot to reflect current events and trends. The new "Dynasty" consist of a diversified cast of Latino and African-American actors. One character is also openly gay and a male character in the '80s show is now a woman in the rebooted version.

"Why call it 'Dynasty'? It's nothing to do with 'Dynasty' at all. It's insulting," Thomson said, adding that no one from the original cast had discussions with the network about the reboot."I don't think any of us would [return]," he said.

"I don't think any of us would [return]," he said.

"Dynasty" is about a rivalry among members of a wealthy oil families, the Carringtons and the Colbys. Former "Gossip Girl" executive producers Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz hatched the reboot idea with Richard and Esther Shapiro and The CW. The Shapiros are the original executive producers of the '80s "Dynasty."

Thomson said he's certain that Aaron Spelling, who created the show, will be turning in his grave because of this new iteration.

Meanwhile, the new "Dynasty" might just boost The CW's rating this fall, according to Ad Week. It's the kind of series that feed viewers' guilty pleasure, with the catfights, backstabbing and conniving that's expected to take place in every episode.

"Dynasty" stars Grant Show (Blake Carrington), Nathalie Kelley (Cristal Flores), Elizabeth Gillies (Fallon Carrington), James Mackay (Steven Carrington), Alan Dale (Joseph Anders), Sam Adegoke (Jeff Colby), Robert Christopher Riley (Michael Culhane), and Rafael de La Fuente (Sammy Jo Flores). It will premiere on Oct. 11 at 9:00 p.m. EST on The CW.
