'Edge of Tomorrow 2' News, Release Date: Director Confirms Completion of Script

Filmmaker Doug Liman's plate has been full in recent months as he works on the sequel of "Edge of Tomorrow." Earlier this week, he gave an update on the follow-up movie, revealing that its script has already been completed.

Liman is not the type who usually opts for sequels to his movies, but because of the immense popularity of the first "Edge of Tomorrow" movie, he decided to give it a try. Titled "Live Die Repeat and Repeat," the sequel will largely be based on the Japanese novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, "All You Need Is Kill," and might already go into production soon.

In a recent interview where he was supposed to promote his upcoming movie "American Made," Liman was asked about the progress of "Edge of Tomorrow 2." The filmmaker was generous enough to reveal that the script for the follow-up was already done and that they were then trying to look for a good schedule to kick off the production.

"We have a script. We're just trying to find a time to schedule it, between my schedule and Emily's and Tom's. But it's one of these things where it's a sequel whose origins come from the best possible place, which is, it's not a studio saying,' 'Hey, we think we can make some more money. Let's just stamp out another one,'" he said.

The prolific filmmaker said the upcoming movie resulted from fans of the first "Edge of Tomorrow" movie who kept on coming up to him and telling him and the other producers how they loved the movie and how they wanted it to have a sequel. After they sat down and talked about the possibility, Chris McQuarrie was able to come up with a great story.

Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are set to reprise their roles in the movie as Major William Cage and Sergeant Rita Vrataski, respectively. The movie has yet to have a release date.
