Egg-Hunting Kids Form Human Arrow to Help Police Chopper Track Burglars
A group of children in Surrey, London have become instant heroes after news emerged about their efforts of helping a police chopper track down two burglars on Good Friday, March 25.
According to a statement released by the Surrey police, the children were on an Easter egg hunt with their families and while they were astonished by the chopper that suddenly appeared above them, they soon realized that something was going on. The kids spotted the fleeing suspects and immediately thought of a way to help the police in their own hunt.
"They [kids] formed a human arrow in the middle of a field to point the helicopter in the right direction. The helicopter crew quickly relayed this information to officers on the ground and a short time later two men were arrested," the statement said.
The fun Easter egg hunt was disrupted after a helicopter called on by the Surrey police hovered above the children and parents taking part in the Easter festivities. Two intruders were busy with their own activities at a disused building along Horsham Road.
The quiet community would usually just stare at choppers flying by but the kids and their parents seemed to understand the hectic situation. The kids then dropped themselves to the ground in the form of an arrow, helping the police hunt the suspects easier.
Sgt. Paul Sochon expressed his gratefulness not only to the children who were quick-thinkers but also to the parents who allowed their children to join in the challenging task of tracking down suspected burglars. He said the residents' willingness to take part in the police search helped make the authorities' mission become a success. "The initiative they demonstrated proved to be invaluable," Sochon said.
Soon after the perpetrators were captured, the chopper crew landed on the ground and enjoyed some chocolates and other treats with the kids who helped saved the day.
The unnamed intruders have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and are aged 28 and 27. The investigation will continue on Friday, May 13.
