'Elementary' Season 5 Episode 13 Spoilers: Sherlock Takes On His Most Difficult Assignment Yet

Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) has a total of 16 hours to save Watson (Lucy Liu) and several others in the upcoming episode of "Elementary."

In the episode titled "Over a Barrel," the synopsis (as seen on TV Guide) reveals that a hostage-taking incident will occur. Unfortunately for Joan, she is at the wrong place at the wrong time. The culprit is a distressed father who wants the authorities to catch the criminal who killed his son many years ago. The statute of limitations of the case will soon expire and he cannot accept that justice has still not been served. Sherlock and the police have 16 hours to find his son's killer. If they fail, he will kill the hostages one by one.

The promo shows the man entering a diner. He is wielding a wicked-looking rifle. There are about 20 civilians inside. Sherlock goes in and talks to the hostage-taker. The man issues his ultimatum. The consultant has 16 hours to follow the order or he will not see his partner alive again. Outside the diner, the police are monitoring everything. Their hands are tied, as the culprit only wants to talk to Sherlock. Later on, Sherlock calls him on the phone, asking for an extension. He needs more time to find his target, but the abductor says "no."

Inside the diner, the hostages are scurrying, trying to find a safe place to hide as the man prepares to go on a rampage. He starts punching someone and then loads his gun. Joan screams and tells the man to stop. Outside, snipers are taking their positions. If worse comes to worst, they are prepared to shoot the hostage-taker. Everything boils down to Sherlock. He must locate the suspect for the murder or people are going to die.

"Elementary" season 5 episode 13 will air on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 10 p.m. EST on CBS.
