'Elementary' Season 6 Spoilers: Another Death Pushes Joan to Leave Sherlock

Joan (Lucy Liu) will have another reason to stay away from Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) in the upcoming season of "Elementary."

In a recent interview with TVLine, executive producer Rob Doherty revealed that Joan would be receiving some bad news in the new installment. She will reportedly lose a person close to her heart, someone who was against her friendship with Sherlock. This new predicament may seal the deal for Joan in cutting ties with her partner.

Previously, the two fought when Sherlock failed to attend Shinwell's (Nelsan Ellis) funeral. Joan was furious about the snub, especially when her partner did not offer any explanation on why he was nowhere to be found.

"Joan will lose someone who was very close to her once upon a time and she will learn that this person made certain assessments regarding the decisions Joan has made as a professional. It's going to give her cause to look at choices she's made and choices that she has right in front of her: Might she be a more complete person if she weren't in a partnership with Sherlock Holmes?" the EP teased.

Joan will probably need time to think away from Sherlock and decide what she really wants to do. Sherlock will be thankful he will have someone else to take care of him in Joan's absence. It has been previously revealed that a new character would be introduced in season 6. Desmond Harrington has reportedly been tapped to play the role of Michael. The man met Sherlock when they were both attending AA meetings. Michael was inspired by the consultant's words, and he has always wanted to return the favor. He will try to help Sherlock the best way he can, especially when the latter feels isolated and unhappy with his life.

"Elementary" season 6 is rumored to air in 2018.
