'Elle' Magazine Cover Causes Controversy; Mindy Kaling Defends Her Cover
Actress and author Mindy Kaling appears on the newest cover of "Elle" magazine but not without a great deal of controversy. Many readers are upset that her whole body is not shown on the cover and that the cover is in black and white, yet Kaling and the editors of "Elle" are proud of the issue and have spoken out in defense of it.
"Mindy looks sexy, beautiful and chic," "Elle" told E! News in an official statement. "We think it is a striking and sophisticated cover and are thrilled to celebrate her in our Women in TV Issue."
Several fashion bloggers and websites have slammed the magazine for not showing a full-body shot of Kaling and for making the cover black and white, when every other comedian featured in the issue has been on the cover in a full-body, full-cover photo. The magazine decided to do four separate covers, with Zooey Deschanel, Amy Poehler, and Allison Williams also featured, but in various poses.

"It could be a total coincidence – after all, when the internet got up in arms over Melissa McCarthy's covered-up treatment, both the star and the magazine spoke out to say that McCarthy herself picked out the coat that sparked the controversy," Fashionista's Tyler McCall noted.
"It would have been a powerful move for 'Elle' to show a full-length shot, especially considering that they've landed in turmoil for failing to do just that with Gabourey Sidibe," Styleite added.
Kaling is thrilled with the cover and very proud of her image. She has never shied away with speaking about her appearance and unique look in Hollywood. It's actually a recurring theme throughout her show, "The Mindy Project."
