Emma Stone-Jonah Hill 'Maniac' Netflix Comedy Series Adds Sally Field

Sally Field has joined the Emma Stone-Jonah Hill dark comedy "Maniac" on Netflix. The series is currently filming in New York City.

Field will have a multi-episode appearance but her role has not been detailed. Speculations are that the Oscar-winning actress will play Hill's mother.

Field's last TV show was the ABC drama series "Brothers and Sisters" with Calista Flockhart ("Supergirl") and Matthew Rhys ("The Americans") that aired from 2006 to 2011. She won an Emmy for her role as Nora Walker, the matriarch who learned her husband had another family after his death.

The actress' latest work, a horror comedy movie called "Little Evil," is currently streaming on Netflix. The film is led by Adam Scott ("Ghosted") who meets and dates a single mom played by Evangeline Lilly ("Ant-Man and the Wasp"). She has a little boy who might be the Antichrist.

"Maniac" also tapped Justin Theroux ("The Leftovers") and Jemima Kirke ("Girls") for guest-starring parts on the show. Details about their roles, however, have been kept under wraps as well.

Meanwhile, "True Detective" director Cary Fukunaga is helming all 10 episodes of "Maniac" that are based on a 2014 Norwegian series. Patrick Somerville is writing the script about a psychiatric ward patient who escapes to a fantasy world in his mind.

The cast of "Maniac" was recently seen filming scenes in New York with the director. Hill and Stone wore '80s clothes, hair and makeup. He had a mullet wig and wore skimpy shorts with knee-high socks. She wore a big curly blond wig, acid wash jeans, and heavy makeup.

Hill and Stone last worked on "Superbad," a 2007 teen comedy flick. This will mark their return to the small screen where they both started acting.

Both stars also serve as executive producers of their new show. Netflix has not yet announced the air date to "Maniac" but it's expected to arrive on the streaming platform in 2018.
