Emma Stone News: On Her Anxiety and 'Battle of the Sexes'
Hollywood celebrity Emma Stone recently came on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" to promote "Battle of the Sexes," which is a film fundamentally based on a true story. However, the conversation moved toward a more personal path as Stone revealed that she has been diagnosed with anxiety, and that she started therapy at the tender age of seven.
During her interview with Colbert, Stone showed him a drawing that she made when she was in therapy as a 9-year-old. The picture illustrates herself and a tiny green "monster" which represents her anxiety. Headlined by the words "I am bigger than my anxiety," Stone expressed that it was an apt representation of how she felt everyday.
Although she started therapy at such a young age, Stone also said that she still has anxiety to this day. The panic attacks have not reappeared since she started taking up projects in Hollywood. According to the "La La Land" actress, acting and improvisation helped her a lot in managing her anxiety. Furthermore, Stone shares that at times, when the anxiety is at its worst, she would feel like it would never end. Fortunately, she has been able to recover each time with the help of dedicated therapists, as well as effective cognitive behavioral techniques.
Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris directed Stone's upcoming film, "Battle of the Sexes." Meanwhile, it was written by Simon Beaufoy. It is a biographical sports film, which tells the story of a tennis match held in 1973 between Billy Jean King and Bobby Riggs. Stone plays the role of King, while Steve Carell portrays Riggs. "Battle of the Sexes" was shown during this year's Telluride Film Festival, and it has been met with positive reactions from the critics.
"Battle of the Sexes" is scheduled to land in theaters on Sept. 22.
