'Empire' Season 2 Spoilers: Someone - Not Rhonda - Will Die

"Empire" wrapped up the first half of its second season on Dec. 2 with a stunning winter finale that left fans of the show with at least a couple of cliffhangers to mull over until Season 2 resumes in March.

At the end of "Et Tu, Brute?," Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) and her unborn child's fates were left undetermined as Andre's (Trai Byers) wife is seen sprawled out at the bottom of the stairs after having been pushed by an unknown assailant. But though things don't look too good for Rhonda, an interview with "Empire" showrunner Ilene Chaiken gave some insight into the character's future.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Chaiken said, "We hope Rhonda survives." She explained: "And, depending on the outcome of both those things, how will Rhonda and Andre repair themselves -- that's going to be a big part of the story for the second half of the season."

In a revealing statement, the "Empire" boss said, "Rhonda and Andre are figuring out whether this was an accident, a cruel twist of fate, whether it was something that God meant to happen or that somebody did to them for some other nefarious reason is going to be a very big story for us."

Given this upcoming narrative for Rhonda and Andre in Season 2B, it can only be assumed that Rhonda will survive her tumble down the stairs. However, back in October, TV Line reported that a new character called Devin, an "experienced grief counselor," will be introduced in the premiere episode of Season 2B. Does the arrival of a grief counselor mean that someone on the show has died? And who could it be? Perhaps Rhonda will live but her baby will not?

"Empire" Season 2 returns on March 30 with Episode 11, "Death Will Have His Day," at 9 p.m. on Fox.
