'Empire' Season 3 Episode 12: Hakeem's Birthday Party Takes Unexpected Turn
"Empire" season 3, episode 12 has some exciting stuff ahead for fans. After the events in the midseason premiere, the upcoming episode will focus on Angelo (Taye Diggs), Anika (Grace Gealy) and Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray).
Titled "Strange Bedfellows," episode 12 will follow Hakeem as he throws a party for himself until it takes an unexpected turn. It will also shed some light on the background of Cookie (Taraji P. Henson), which will be a major concern for Angelo.
The synopsis for the upcoming episode reads, "Angelo makes an unsettling discovery and is concerned that Cookie's past isn't in the past and will hurt his chances of becoming the Mayor. Anika is faced with a life-changing decision after Tariq (Morocco Omari) reveals what he is really after. Meanwhile, Hakeem's 21st birthday party takes an unexpected turn."
The midseason premiere of "Empire" season 3 saw Anika hightailing out of town after rejecting Tariq's offer. Tariq offered to book her a suite in witness protection if she would snitch on Lucious (Terrence Howard). Elsewhere in the episode, Cookie had a showdown with Lucious and had the other characters involved. The spat left Jamal (Jussie Smollett) stabbed in the back by Tory (Rumer Willis). Apparently, Lucious' missus still hasn't moved on from her ex-husband despite her efforts to move on with her new beau, Angelo.
In an interview with TV Line, showrunner Ilene Chaiken talked about some of the characters in the series.
Speaking about Lucious' apparent restraint when Angelo came to his office in the previous episode, Chaiken said, "Lucious is always playing a long game. If Lucious showed restraint, it's because he knew that there was more to gain by keeping [quiet]."
Chaiken also said that as far as Anika is concerned, she is smart enough to understand the power of the Lyons. While she did not reveal where Anika was headed after rejecting Tariq's offer, she said Anika would not be so quick "to put her in the hands of a slightly unhinged federal agent," referring to Tariq.
"Strange Bedfellows" airs on Wednesday, April 5 at 9 p.m. EDT on FOX.
