'Escape Plan 2' Casting News: Dave Bautista Joins Cast With Sylvester Stallone
"Escape Plan 2," the film sequel to Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger's 2013 prison break thriller, has added "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "SPECTRE" actor Dave Bautista to its cast.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bautista will be joining returning cast member Stallone for the film sequel, which will be helmed by "Marauders" and "Arsenal" director Steven C. Miller. Miles Chapman, who wrote the script for the first movie, will also be writing the sequel's script.
"Escape Plan 2" is a U.S.-China co-production effort involving Emmett/Furla/Oasis and China's Leomus Pictures, Deadline reports. Returning to produce the sequel are Randall Emmett, George Furla, Mark Canton, Zack Schiller as well as Robbie Brenner.
Executive producers of the upcoming movie include Ted Fox, Barry Brooker, Mark Stewart and Stan Wertlieb, along with Fyzz Facility's Wayne Marc Godfrey and Robert Jones.
The first "Escape Plan" movie told the story of one of the world's greatest experts on structural security, who agreed to take on one final mission: to break out of a top-secret, high-tech security facility known as "The Tomb."
Wrongly imprisoned, Ray Breslin (Stallone) recruits fellow inmate Emil Rottmayer (Schwarzenegger) to aid him in accomplishing his almost impossible plan to escape from the most secure and fortified prison ever built.
The original film was released by Summit Entertainment in 2013, grossing $25 million domestically but taking in $137 million worldwide, with the bulk of its international earnings coming from China.
Aside from Stallone and Schwarzenegger, "Escape Plan" also starred Jim Caviezel, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Vinnie Jones, Amy Ryan and Vincent D'Onofrio.
Stallone will also be joining Bautista in a small and undisclosed role in the upcoming Marvel film sequel, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," which is slated for release this summer, on May 5.
Meanwhile, Bautista is set to appear in the "Blade Runner" sequel scheduled for release on Oct. 6 this year, and "Avengers: Infinity War" on May 8, 2018.
