'Ex Machina' Star Alicia Vikander in Talks to Join 'Bourne 5'
Following positive reviews of her lead role in "Ex Machina," Alicia Vikander is reported to be in negotiations to be part of the next "Bourne" movie. According to a report in Cinema Blend, the actress is being considered to take on the female lead role in the upcoming "Bourne 5."
As with previous "Bourne" films in the franchise, the female lead is critical in each movie's storyline, with the character providing the lead male character in his search for truth. If recent reports are true, Vikander may become part of this lineup of capable actresses. First reported on Deadline, it is said that the Swedish actress is in talks to join the yet untitled "Bourne" movie.
"Bourne 5" will bring back Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. Paul Greengrass also returns to helm the movie. According to the report, Greengrass and Damon are also writing the movie's screenplay and the plot is being kept under wraps. It is not yet known what role Vikander will be asked to portray.
In related news, Vikander has been earlier attached to a science fiction movie with Tom Hanks called "The Circle." The report says that if Vikander accepts the "Bourne 5" role, this may mean that she will have to say goodbye to working with Tom Hanks. Other forthcoming movies of the actress include Guy Ritchie's "The Man from U.N.C.L.E" and John Wells' comedy "Adam Jones." She is also reported to be in talks for a role in the "Assassin's Creed" movie with Michael Fassbender.
No other casting news have been circulating. Universal Pictures has however revealed that the movie will be released on July 29, 2016, which means that production is set to begin soon.
The film will be the fifth in the "Bourne" film franchise, which started with the 2002 "The Bourne Identity," then the 2004 "The Bourne Supremacy" and the 2007 "The Bourne Ultimatum," all of which starred Matt Damon. The fourth film, "The Bourne Legacy" starred Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross, who is affected by Bourne's actions in "Ultimatum." The franchise is based on a novel series written by Robert Ludlum.
