'Extant' season 2 finale spoilers and recap: Season 3 seeds planted; renewal up in the air
"Extant" has just ended its second season with an explosive two-hour finale. The show's ratings have declined over the course of the season, but the series is produced by the ingenious Steven Spielberg and is helmed by A-list celebrities Halle Berry and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
There is hope for a third season because CBS has recently canceled "Under the Dome" and Extant might replace the series during its summer lineup. So, there is still hope for the science-fiction thriller. Its ratings may climb back up if there is a next season. The ratings of the show during the finale were just slightly above its lowest rating yet.
The second season of the series did not deliver on the original premise of the show, which caused the viewership to decline. The show gave viewers some weird and confusing moments that made some people lose interest, despite its interesting idea. The creator of the series should revamp the plot, in order to make it interesting.
Part 1 of the finale began with Charlie and Ethan who found Julie before she was killed. Meanwhile, Humanich version of Molly called Molly X had gunned down JD in cold blood. JD was saved by the real Molly who had to convince him that it was her so-called evil twin that tried to kill him.
JD and Molly infiltrated GSC where the latter came face-to-face with her other self. The ladies slugged it out, while JD had to choose which Molly to shoot at. He eventually shot at the fake Molly and he revealed that he deduced that through the eyes.
Then Humanich Lucy arrived on the scene and she found the amulet on the floor. She had given the amulet to Molly instead of destroying it herself. She had discovered the TAALR's plans and she realized how disposable she was.
Molly was able to shut down the program and everything associated with it. Ethan was spared — thanks to a firewall that John had built. The finale ended with a reboot scene that happened inside the GSC, while Molly held a device to introduce the world to Ares. The very last scene was TAALR who assumed a Humanich form sitting in a coffee shop.
The last scenes of the second season definitely planted some seeds for a potential third season and they even give insight unto some future plot points even if a new season remains unconfirmed.
