'Extant' season 3 update: Will it renewed or be cancelled?

The question about the fate of the science fiction television drama series "Extant" remains ambiguous. Fans of the show are still waiting for a definite answer on whether the show will return for its third season or if it will be altogether dissolved, leaving many cliffhangers from the previous season unresolved. According to Movie News Guide, the series has been "struggling hard" to continue on for another season as rumors have been circulating that CBS channel may cancel the show. But there are some reports that say perhaps the channel will give it another chance.

The show, which stars Academy Award-winner Halle Berry, ended the sophomore season with many loose ends that need to be answered, at least that's what the followers of the show clamor. But several factors are being placed in the way that make it difficult for the show to move forward. Crossmap detailed that the TV rating of the series is one factor.

As said by the source, "Extant" is not doing well with the rating during the second season which recorded approximately 4.3 million viewers only. It resulted to a rating of 0.7 which is even lower than CBS's recently cancelled show "Under the Dome." Aside from the poor rating, the budget is holding back production. The show features top stars in the industry including Berry and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. With that, it's apparent that the series isn't cheap to produce.

But despite the hindrances that are making the show's life hanging by a thread, the production and creative team believe that they can still pull viewers. Reports say that "Extant" season two was better than the first season, which indicates that the show really improved over time. Award-winning Steven Spielberg, along with Berry, will be executive producing the show. The addition of Morgan in the show also helped with the pacing and new direction of the show.

The second season of "Extant" was announced in October last year. If the third announcement schedule will be based on that, CBS will have a few weeks left to decide whether they will follow up or just cancel the show. Fans will have to stay tuned for more updates on the show.
